The Fritz Family Christmas Card

The best thing about Texas Wine Country—other than the wine, of course—is the people. During the holiday season, Signor loves to celebrate the family and friendship of the Wine Country community. A perfect example of this holiday unity is the Christmas card tradition of the Fritz family.

Jim and Laura Fritz, owners of Das Fritz Weinhaus in Stonewall, were happy to answer our questions and give us a look into their tradition. The family has been keeping friends and family entertained with their one-of-a-kind family Christmas cards for 20 years now.

2001

It all started out as an attempt to wrangle three “young and wiggly” kids into one frame: a struggle many parents know all too well. As their three sons grew up, so did the Christmas card antics.

Their themes have ranged from Where’s Waldo to ‘80s aerobics to cavemen. True to the region, the tradition has aged like fine wine and gets better every year. But regardless of the ever-increasing quality of their cards, Jim and Laura say that their favorite part is doing this as a family.

Like the rest of us, the Fritzes had to get creative in “getting together” for the card this year: a Zoom call for their hush-hush theme planning and individual photo shoots to create one fantastic card.

2009

The Fritz Christmas Card has become a treasured tradition shared with hundreds of people across the globe. This year, they will send out about 600 cards—yes, you read that right—to friends and family in Europe, India, Japan, Australia, and the Caribbean.

Be sure to pay the Fritzes a visit at Das Fritz Weinhaus, the perfect place for a Texas Wine Country escape and just a short drive from Signor Vineyards. Jim and Laura told us their favorite Signor wines are the Tannat and Rousanne, but they love them all. We can’t help but agree!
